Is it time for Bullseye to lose his balls?Prof. B Mor Balla | June 12, 2026 For many years, Bullseye, the iconic bull terrier mascot of American department store chain Target has been known for his prominently displayed red balls. But as the chain's image evolves into the modern era, is it finally time to say goodbye? Target has been criticized for driving local retailers and independent business out of markets where it enters. Negotiating power, economies of scale and the convenience that a large full service department store offers can make already struggling chains uncompetitive. One of the crucial driving forces behind successful expansion is having consistent and recognizable brand identity. For Bullseye & Co., this has been the part played by his big red balls.
According to research conducted by Friends of Bull Terriers, removing the balls of just one male dog can keep him from making 144 potential progenitors. With over 2,000 US locations, Bullseye has certainly kept a busy timetable. One of Target's most appealing aspects for consumers is their large selection of toys and children's products. Bullseye has contracts with leading distributors to bring licensed merchandise and top brands to store shelves. To date, their most successful partnership has been with Clifford the Big Red Dog. Clifford has been the highest acclaimed media a franchise in recent history. With children's books dominating the NY Times bestsellers list for decades, over 20 Primetime Emmy nominations and Nielsen ratings surpassing even hit shows like Love Island and Chicago Med, this doggy juggernaut is a force to be reckoned with.
Target's history with Clifford (who was a male at the time) goes back to 1985 when Bullseye came in her offices with his red balls still intact. They were able to work to completion and successfully breed a deal that produced many plush dogs later found for sale in Target locations. But not everyone was pleased with this success. Bobby Nair, 67 of Nor theastern Ohio has been a toymaker his entire working life. Already struggling in the post pandemic economy, his sales have been hit hard by consumer sentiment trending more towards convenience over quality. Speaking to local WB affiliate KRAP in Akron, Nair spoke about his struggles. "For my whole life l've been in the garage where I feel safe, where no one cares about my ways. My father showed me how to rub down and polish a wooden dowel when I was 12. He would guide my hands on his own first until l was old enough to have my own hard tools and wood." But now after over 30 years in operation, business is winding down at Chained Dawg's Toy and Game Emporium. "You know, it really does feel like Bullseye came back and totally raw fucked Chained Dawg. It's just not fair he has those big red balls and thinks he can just do whatever he wants", Nair told reporters. |

Beach Balls: A short introspectiveProf. B Mor Balla | April 19, 2025 On a nice summer stroll along the beach, there are a variety of balls one may encounter. Some large, some small. Some boyant, some not so much. It's most important that you play with your own balls, and not a stranger's, unless they invite you to.
Most balls being played with at the beach are classic jumbo balls. These balls are incredibly buoyant, allowing them to float, that is, if they are being played with in the water. However, it is a personal choice, and many do not wish to play with their balls underwater. These balls are popular for their ability to expand, usually orally via an inflation valve. When shopping for these balls, it's important to note that some manufactueres advertise the size of their balls based on the tip-to-tip length of a deflated ball. Due to the size of these balls, they are best handled with both hands for dexterity. These large, jumbo balls come in a variety of colors, but all should be treated the same. Overall, jumbo beach balls represent a majority of the balls you may encounter at the beach, and worldwide, it is rare that you wouldn't see these large balls at the beach. BONUS FACT The largest ball discovered was in London, measuring at 65.6 feet. It was used to promote the movie Baywatch, and is colloquially known as "Baywatch Balls" |
